Persona Background:

Roana Aldinoch began life as the fifth and last living child of Bruce Aldinoch and Margaret Small in 13th century Totnes, Devonshire, England. Her father was a minter, her mother a spinner, and her siblings - all boys - worked either as shepherds or in their father's shop. Weak of hand and inept with a spindle, Roana was allowed to continue her education well past the norm, learning reading, writing, and simple mathematics in order to assist her father in his shop with bookkeeping. As part of her education, she was taught to make ledgers and book covers, something she enjoyed immensely. She spent a great deal of her time learning from Brother Artemis how books were created, bound, and used. She also grew to love the minting process, and when a friend of her father's gave her a bit of stone to carve in order to make buttons for a dress, she was enthralled enough to add pewter smithing to her list of abilities, though never trusting her skills enough to warrant making a job of it.

As payment to Brother Artemis, an herbalist, Roana spent her free-time wandering the moors for unusual plants to bring back to him. She then helped him draw the plants, write up their abilities and uses, and bind the books for further work later. She assisted him with his brewing, taking notes and carefully tending the casks. Through this, she was able to bring home the secrets of the monastery meads, which made her a hero to her brothers.

On her 19th birthday, her father accepted 10 sheep and two cows for her from a young smith named Eadric. Though strangers at first, they came to love one another deeply, and she gave him three strong sons and a beautiful daughter. She kept the smith's books for him, assisted the local lord with the repair and upkeep of his library, and made a little extra money by selling casks of her mead to the local inn.

SCA Background:

I began my time in the SCA in the Shire of Shadowdale in Calontir in 1990. I was an extremely active member for 18 months, during which time I attended Estrella, spent time in the company of royalty, and overall, enjoyed myself immensely. I also earned my AoA for service to the crown as a Lady in Waiting on HRM Cadfell under the name Marina de Gallardo y Terciera. In 1992, I had to step away from the SCA in order to concentrate on my studies.

Sixteen years later, I moved to the Shire of Wurmwald. This time I had a husband and four children with which to share my hobby. Together, we have come to really enjoy getting to know the folk here, the projects and events in the Middle Kingdom, and the SCA in general.

Basically, I'm a happily married Lady with four children, three cats, and very little time on my hands. What little time I do find, I spend on the SCA. Sick and twisted, I know. What can I say?
