Do you wish you had better garb? Do you go to events and envy people who have really impressive-looking SCA gear? Have you learned a craft in the arts and sciences, but you just haven't gotten around to making anything with it? Do you tend to be more productive when you have a deadline?

Then these challenges are for you!

The idea is that each month there will be a challenge for the people in our shire -- a challenge related to the arts and sciences. Each challenge will begin at one A&S meeting, and finish by the next A&S meeting. I.e., the June challenge is issued at the May A&S meeting (4th Thursday of the month) and lasts through most of the month of June until the June A&S meeting.

The purpose is to give you a deadline to encourage you to "get around to" that project you've been wanting to work on anyway, or inspire you to try something new.

We also need suggestions for future challenges. What should we work on next?

June 2012

The first challenge: Create one new item for use in the SCA. This is a very generic challenge, so it could be a piece of garb, something for your feast gear, combat gear, or anything else that you can show off or use in the SCA. Future challenges may become more specific, depending on the people interested in participating and what they want to do.

Who's Participating:

• Sofya -- Making a new linen rubakha (chemise) so I can still dress like a Russian in hot summer weather. The overall goal is to have more garb that I can wear to summer events without risk of heat stroke. So far I have this one mostly ready to wear except for hemming the bottom and cuffs. Eventually I'd like to add some decorative stitching to these edges, but that may have to wait for a future challenge.
