Derwent lightfastness notes

Page history last edited by Lynette 13 years, 2 months ago

Part of the Art materials & color permanence collection for the Scribal Arts documentation.

The Derwent collection uses the Blue Wool 0 - 8 colorfastness rating system, where 0 is worst, 8 is best, and I think we're aiming for 5 or 6 through 8 for SCA purposes.

Aquatones line
Solid pigment with no casing - greens fairly good, reds middle of road (5s)

Watercolor pencils
Wood cased - blues and golds pretty lightfast (7-8), greens middle of road (5-6), reds pretty bad (1-4)

Inktense
solid pigment with no casing - becomes permanent after wetting.
blues generally lightfast (6-8), reds generally bad (3-5), seems common to lots of reds though
